The Almont Township Community

Lapeer County, Michigan

Almont was the central village around which the Scottish Settlement thrived in the mid 1800's. It lies 48 miles north of Detroit, 37 miles west of Port Huron, 14 miles east of Metamora, 8 miles north of Bruce, 10 miles north of Romeo, 13 miles northeast of Armada and 8 miles south of Berlin. Almont got it's significance primarily because the United Presbyterian Church was located on the outskirts of the village. There was a school and there still is a cemetery beside the where the church once stood. The School building and church were moved and only the cemetery remains alongside Scottish Settlement Road.
